A bounty of beer brought back from Portland: @rogueales Sriracha Stout @rogueales New Crustacean Barleywineish Imperial IPA Sorta @burnsidebrewco Sweet Heat @breaksidebrews Salted Caramel Stout
My favorite neighborhood gastropub DryHop Brewers graciously hosted a tap takeover of Heartland Beverage distributed breweries last Wednesday night–$20 for a flight of 6 4-oz pours. I moseyed on by and snuggled up to the stuffed bar to sip my way through some serious Chicagoland contenders.
I’m a pint glass collecting enthusiast. I say enthusiast now—several months ago a couple years ago I was an addict, a fiend…alright a klepto. I mean I had steel-cut laser beam Jeweler’s eyeballs for these glass goblets. Anytime I walked into a bar I became a lookout on the Titanic (yea bad example), scanning the room for any carafe with a flash of color or brewery symbol. I am trying to turn my obsession into a carefully crafted collection (from klepto to connoisseur, I like to say.) So, while I no longer snipe every single glass that I clash paths with, I do seek out the innovative, the creative, and the classic pieces of pintware. The Duvel Collection, a limited series of glasses emblazoned with designs from internationally recognized artists, falls into the category of…I need to add to my collection. Continue reading

Almost 1 month has has passed since my moratorium on alcohol. I lasted 30 ale free days and while I enjoyed my sobering start to the year I have to say that breaking the seal if you will with the tart yet sweet pour of an Anderson Valley The Kimmie, The Yink, & the Holy Gose for the Super Bowl seemed fitting. It was a bittersweet moment. I almost didn’t want to take that first sip, craving to see how long I could possible push myself without my favorite beverage. But the time I had come. I wanted back into the depths of dark stouts, to swim in pools of pale ales, and most importantly to run with the wild wild sours and goses that I have come to love so much. Continue reading
Duvel art night @thenorthdown. Limited edition @duvelbeer collector glass designed by artist Stefan Glerum. Pretty sick.
The best part about a trip to Wisconsin is coming home with a trunkful of @newglarusbeer. Apple Ale is part of their limited-release Thumbprint series. Light, sweet, refreshing.
I’m already of fan of Anderson Valley Brewing Co’s @avbc #highway128sessionseries, but how about this delicious dark monster #hugearkerbourbonbarrelimperialstout. Pouring a beasty, boozy 13.5% @FranklinTap
