I know I’ve been constantly waxing poetic on fall, but it’s my favorite time of year. Here in Chicago I get deprived of a true fall as we cruise right through to winter’s worst. The leaves turn straight to yellow, frigid temperatures sprint off the Lake and before I know it the first flakes frost my window. I will hold onto falls festive fermentations as long as I can! Since today marks the actual autumn equinox let’s look once more at what’s on tap this Tuesday.
I can’t wait for Oktoberfest season to hit. It is a mere weeks until St. Alphonsus, Revolution Brewing, Oak Park and more christen the fall season with merriments of Oktoberfests, Marzens, Pumpkin Beers, Brown and Amber Ales, and more bonfire worthy brews (Sweet Potato Ale?? It is my goal to try you this fall!!) Until then channel your inner Halloween or imminent Apocalypse and play air hockey with the Zombie Monkey’s of Tallgrass Brewing Co.
Oh man after a too long hiatus I am bringing back On Tap Tuesday and Firkin Friday. I fell off the beer blogging wagon again, but I’m all saddled up and back on now. Fests are the name of the game this Fall and we have got some koozie doozies this weekend. Pumpkin beer ethusiasts delight, Oktoberfect followers rejoice—Check out my top picks below for a decidedly crisp, cold, ale-filled autumnal weekend. Continue reading
Annnnnnd we’re back. I know its been a long time. I’ve been to the forest and back, started a new job, and in between there hasn’t been much time for beer. Well, that’s not true there’s been time for me to drink it just not time for me to write about it. I promise though I’m back on in the beer saddle. So let’s kick things off kaled and aled style with a new edition of On Tap Tuesday.
Leaving town for a few days guys to go camping! You know what beer would go really well with camping….Only Child’s Don’t Tell Mama the Baby Citra’s Dead. I got my first taste of it this past weekend at Bottles and Cans. Check it out here! Anywho, I digress, I’ll give you a typical rundown of events from Tuesday-Thursday. Make sure you mark your calendars for Wednesday because the wait is finally over—Lagunitas will be opening their taproom (fingers crossed, but it should be happening for real this time). For your weekend fun you can always check out Chicago Beeronaut—he always has a really great comprehensive calendar of events. I”ll be back Monday in time for the next edition of On Tap Tuesday.
I’m all hopped up for the weekend! It’s the summer solstice – our longest day of the year – and breweries and cities alike are celebrating the extra sunlight. Four festivals from Yorkville and Berwyn to Oak Forest and Wicker Park/Bucktown are shining down on you with delicious brew. Moody Tongue makes its first appearance on the Chicago scene and some Chicago Beer Gals get together to drink summer wheat beer (I’ll be at this one for sure!). Summer, summer, summer that is the theme—from Solstice to shandy here are the best weekend bets :
Whewww with the soaring 80 degree temperatures outside and stiff warm winds blowing off the lake I can finally say that summer has swooped down like a polar solar vortex on the Second City. What a relief it finally is to crack open a Founders All Day IPA, Bells Oberon or Stone Go To IPA, slap a burger on the charcoal grill, and watch the goals fly for the World Cup. When you’re not watching soccer matches scoot yourself on over to these beer events :
Welcome to the first edition of Firkin Friday! Just like a Firkin, which holds about a fourth the amount of beer as real keg, this blog post will give you a little dose of fresh, cask-conditioned weekend events.
Hopefully, you’ve enjoyed some goings on this weekend-maybe you caught the Brazil vs. Croatia World Cup opener yesterday? If you haven’t the Globe Pub is one of the best soccer bars in the city—make sure you stop by for a $5 Estrella and a game. Here are the rest of the “hoppenings” this weekend. Continue reading
I’ve decided that one post covering a whole weeks worth of beer events is a little much. Conclusion : I’m going to break this up into two posts. On Tap Tuesday will cover all events during the work week from Tuesday-Thursday. My new weekly blog Firkin Friday will cover all of the “hoppenings” during the weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) and any lingering goings-on that preceding Monday.
Although I couldn’t participate in any events last week because I was abstaining from alcohol in lieu of my recent half-marathon, I’m back in action this week. Check out the exciting line up: Continue reading
It’s that time again—the week before I run my second half marathon, which means I am in full alcohol cleanse mode. So, although I will not be partaking in any liquid libations this week that doesn’t mean you all can’t enjoy this weeks events. Continue reading
